Created by the General Assembly in 1975, Illinois' first local government investment pool was known by the acronym IPTIP (Illinois Public Treasurers' Investment Pool), and is now called The Illinois Funds. In 1995, the balance in the fund was $1.3 billion, growing to more than $5.4 billion today. The fund is still growing due to Standard & Poor's highest rating (AAAm), convenient account services, and high yields.
